When I joined an art club for the first time

Back in the late 1980's I became interested in Art (painting) and was not sure of how to progress and learn more.

There are of course bigger national Art Clubs and Societies such as the Royal Academy, etc.

I was living in Felpham (West Sussex) and found Felpham Art Group. It was great, really friendly and welcoming. I had to pay a fee, but I felt a very small price to pay. They held (and still do hold regular meetings) where you can go along and learn from a professional art demonstrator. The topics throughout the year vary to cater for everyone. Like most art clubs they also hold exhibitions where as a member I could exhibit my own work. I was lucky enough to sell my work!

During my time as a member of Felpham Art Group, I not only learnt a lot more about art, but also made new friends. Since then I have never looked back.

I joined another art club... Downland Art Society, and got involved to the point of being on the committee (treasurer).

Many years on, I am still a member of Downland Art Society (pictured above).

So if your thinking about joining an Art Club... In my experience, is a VERY worthwhile thing to do. You learn so much, meet like minded people, and best of all, chances are... new friends.
